At our Centre in Melksham we offer a range of support for Home Educated children. Our aim is to work with parents to design a personalised plan for each child, linked to the age standards from the National Curriculum, which enhances the wider education they are receiving.

Courses from 3rd January 2024
We are pleased to be offering the courses below for Home-Educated children. Our courses are delivered in small groups and all involve practical, hands-on activities. Optional home learning is set each week so parents can follow up at home if they wish.
All courses will start week commencing 1st January and run for 6 weeks until week commencing 5th February. Bookings can be made for week 1 only or the whole course.
This course is aimed at younger children and uses play-based activities as an introduction to the idea of coding. Sphero Indi has a colour sensor and each colour asks him to move in a different way. Children will explore this, making predictions and testing them out. Every session is hands-on and interactive.
This course is also aimed at younger children but takes coding to a slightly higher level. Whilst still very interactive with play-based challenges, children will use an app on a tablet to code the Sphero Bolt Mini.
This coding course is also for younger children and is ideal for those who enjoy building with Lego. In each session, they will follow the instructions to build a model and then use simple 'icon' coding blocks to move their model. Over the 6 weeks, children will learn how to code a motor, a colour sensor, a light and sound.

This course uses Lego Spike Essentials and is aimed at slightly older children (8-11 years) or those who already have some experience of coding using blocks. In each session, children will follow instructions to build a model and then use word blocks to code and move their model. Children will also be encouraged to consider the suitability of both their model and code for the task given. This course will suit children who enjoy building with lego and want to learn about coding.
Our Science Course is aimed at children between 8 and 12 years old and will focus on electricity. Each session will have a practical element and children will be encouraged to question, predict and test their ideas. Learning will be based around the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum Programme of study.
